All you know about the plant of Tulsi or Holy Basil. In ancient times, the plant of Tulsi was grown in front of homes. People worship the Tulsi as a Queen.
Holy Basil is called as a mother medicine of nature. It is considered as the Queen of all herbs in Ayurveda. It is a very powerful herb in Ayurveda. Tulsi belongs to the mint family. According to the ancient science of Ayurveda, the panchang is prepared from five parts of Tulsi i.e. root, flower, stem, leaves, oil, and seeds.

The plant of holy basil is a perennial aromatic plant. Tulsi is a cultivated plant throughout the world. Basil is erect and has numerous branches on it. Tulsi plant is 12-24 tall with hairy stems. Leaves of basil are green or greenish purple, simple, petioled and ovate with a long blade which usually toothed margin. Tulsi plants have flowers or hairy flowers. And these flowers have coated seeds. These flowers are called as Manjri. Manjri is beneficial for the various types of flu.
Types of Tulsi
It is of mainly three types
- Green Tulsi (Ram Tulsi with Green Leaves). It is also called as White Tulsi.
- Purple Tulsi ( Krishna or Shyama Tulsi with Greenish- Purple Leaves)
- Wild Tulsi (Vana Tulsi). It is less common.
The first two types are very common all over the world. Ram Tulsi and Krishna Tulsi have numerous qualities. But out of these two green Tulsi i.e. Ram Tulsi is widely used for ayurvedic medicines.
Generally, it is sown from the month of March to June. Throughout this period it is widely spread and has the fragrance of Manjris. You can cultivate basil plant in the pot, boxes, bucket, tub, etc. It is grown in the part of Malaysia, Australia, Africa, and Arab countries.
Mainly holy basil leaves and its seeds are the most useful part. For later use of leaves and seeds of holy basil. You can dry them in the shady area and preserve them in the glass or plastic bottle.

Dosage of Tulsi
Leaves Juice: 2-3 teaspoonful
Seeds Powder: 1 gm to 2 gm only (Not More Than This Amount)
Decoction Amount: 25 ml to 50 ml
Qualities of Tulsi in Ayurveda
It balances the three doshas –Vata dosha, Kapha dosha, and Pitta Dosha. Its potency is hot, light, dry and piercing. Taste of Tulsi is pungent and bitter in nature. After digestion, it undergoes the pungent taste.
Tulsi helps in the balance of Vata and Kapha Dosha. Holy basil increases Pitta Dosha. Basil is helpful for the Brain diseases, indigestion, loss of appetite, typhoid, cough, cold, Cholera, plague, maintains blood pressure, heart diseases, dysentery, stomach worms, wounds, asthma, etc.
Tulsi or holy basil plant act as hypoglycemic (Balances the glucose level in the body), muscle relaxant, antibacterial, antifungal, cardiac depressant, antiviral, adaptogenic, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, neuroprotective, and immunological.
Chemical composition of Tulsi
Basil leaves consists of volatile oil, eugenol, and methyl eugenol. Tulsi essential oil consists of hydrocarbon, limonene, benzene, octane, terpineol, cymene, and borneol. It has also some phenolic compounds like apigenin, rosemary acid, isothymusin, circimartin, etc.
The other compounds which have present in the plant of basil are Luteolin, Ursolic acid, orientin, and vicenin, etc. The plant of tulsi also consists of Vitamin C, carotene, phosphorus, copper, iron, calcium, chromium, zinc and nickel.
Ayurvedic Remedies and Benefits of Tulsi at Home
Chickenpox and smallpox are the main health problems. These two are very common nowadays. Take manjris of basil and carom seeds (Ajwain) in an equal amount. Now make a powder of these two ingredients. Take this mixture regularly until the problem persists. This mixture is helpful in the treatment of chickenpox and smallpox.
During the problem of earache use the extract or juice of leaves of Tulsi. Now warm this juice. Put two-three drops of this juice into the ear. It will definitely cure your earache problem.
In the summer season if you feel the acute thirst, heat stroke. Then you can use the juice of the basil. And mix the juice with sugar or mishri. Now take this juice until the problem is not solved.
If the problem of vomiting persists. Then use the juice of holy basil leaves. And mix it with the cardamom powder (Chotti elaichi). Use this mixture it will cure the problem of vomiting very easily.
If you feel the pain in teeth. Then take leaves of Tulsi and powder of black pepper (Kali Mirch). Grind the Tulsi leaves. And mix it with black pepper. So that tablets are formed. Now use this tablet at that place where you feel the pain in the tooth.
Take the juice of Tulsi. And drink the 5-6 drops of the juice by mixing it in the water. You will feel some changes in your nervous system and physical strength. It is good for people of every age.
In the case of delivery of pregnant women. When labor pain occurs. And you will feel more pain than others. So you can take the juice of Tulsi. It will help to lessen the pain.
If you feel the burn in the urine or suffers from urinary infection. You can take the leaves of basil and chew them. You can also take the powder of the basil seeds. It will also cure the problem of urinary infection and burn in the urine.
Bleeding in wounds
If the wounds get bleed. Then you can take the leaves of Tulsi. And grind the leaves of basil, make a paste. Apply this paste on the wounded area. It will cure the bleeding problems.
In this case, you can also take the root of holy basil. And make a powder of it. Now take this powder by putting it into the betel leaf and eat it. It will help to cure the bleeding wounds.
Teething to Infants
When the infants feel the pain at the time of teething. At that time you will take the juice of basil. And mix it with the juice of pomegranate. Give it to the infants. They feel relaxed from that pain.
For the patient of asthma, you can take the juice of extract of leaves of basil. Mix it with honey. Now take this mixture. It is beneficial for asthma diseases and other breathing diseases.
In this problem, you can also suck the leaves of Tulsi with a pinch of black salt. You can also make a decoction of roots of basil. And take this decoction 3-4 times a day to cure the asthma problem.
Fever in Infants
If infants suffer from fever. Then you will take leaves of holy basil, tender leaves of babool and ajwain (Carom seeds) as ingredients. Boil these three ingredients. And make a decoction or kada. Now give this decoction to the infants for one week. It will treat fever in infants.
Indigestion in Infants or others
If you want to clear the stomach indigestion in infants. Then you will take the juice of basil and the juice of betel leaf. Boil these ingredients to make a decoction. Now give this to the infants to clear the stomach.
Cold and Cough
During the problem of cold and cough. Take the juice of leaves of Tulsi, Saunth powder, Carom seeds powder, and honey.
Mix all these ingredients. Now take this mixture. And you will get relief from the cold and cough problems very easily.
You can also take the tulsi leaves, black pepper (Kali mirch) and rock salt. Mix all these three ingredients and make a decoction of it. Take this decoction. It will immediately cure the problem of cold and cough.
If you find the problem of cough persists. You can also take the root of Basil. And suck it with mishri or sugar.
In this problem, you can also take the juice of black basil, 5 pieces of black pepper. Now take this you will feel relax and free from cough problems.
If the imbalance of pitta dosha occurs. Then you will take the juice of Tulsi and the double amount of lemon juice. Mix these two juices and take this mixture. It will help to balance the Pitta Dosha.
Worms in Teeth
If you have the worms in your teeth. Then you will take dry leaves of Tulsi and camphor (Kapur). Now make a powder of it. And apply to the area of worms in your teeth. It will cure this problem.
First of all, take the leaves of basil and the barley water. Now grind the leaves in the barley water. Make a paste and apply this paste on your forehead. You will get immediate relief from the headache pain.
You can also take the juice of Tulsi leaves with the camphor Satva. And make a paste of these two. Apply this paste on your forehead to get relief from the headache.
Ringworms and Other Skin Diseases
During the problem of ringworms. You can take the leaves of holy basil. Now rubbing these leaves on the infected area. You will get relief from the ringworms and itching problems on the skin.
In the disease of leprosy eat the leaves of basil. You can also take the paste of basil leaves. Apply this paste on your leprosy area. You will find the relief from the problem.
In this problem, you can take the juice of Tulsi every day in the morning time. During the problem of Daad, itching, and inflammation. Make the paste of root, seeds, flower, leaves, and stems (Panchang) of Tulsi. Apply this paste on the infected area.
In malaria, you can take leaves of holy basil, black pepper, rock salt, and Munakka (Dried Grapes). Make a decoction of it and take this decoction. It will cure malaria.
You can also take the juice of basil to cure the disease of malaria. Due to the presence of aromatic and volatile oil in it. It cures malaria disease. Because this oil mixes with the atmosphere air. And effects the mosquitoes and parasite of malaria i.e. protozoa parasite.
You will also cure malaria by taking the black tulsi i.e. Krishna Tulsi decoction. To make this decoction boil the leaves of Tulsi into the water and add honey to it.
This fever is also same like as malaria. In this problem, you can take the juice of leaves of Tulsi and mix it with black pepper. Now take this decoction to cure typhoid.
Taste of Mouth
During the fever or in light fever. You will feel the taste of mouth is changed. Sometimes you feel the sweet taste. And sometimes taste of your mouth is like a bitter taste. You will also feel the light fever in the body.
Then you will take black basil, wild Tulsi, and juice of mint or pudina. Mix all these three juices. And take this decoction to change the taste of mouth in fever or in other problem.
Bad Breath or Bad Smell
To cure the problem of bad breath and bad smell. You can chew the leaves of White or Ram Tulsi.
You can also take the juice of Tulsi and add some drops of that juice in the water. Drink this water and you will find it works.
In the case of anti-inflammation. Take the leaves of Tulsi and grind the leaves. Warm the paste and apply on the inflamed area. It will immediately cure the inflamed area.
You can also take the powder of seeds of holy basil to cure the inflamed area.
Indigestion or Other Stomach Disorders
During the problem of indigestion and stomach disorders, you will take the juice of leaves of basil. It will cure the indigestion problem.
If the patient suffers from sinus disease of the nose. Then the patient can smell the extract made from leaves of basil. It will clear the blockage of the nose. And cure the problem of sinus disease. Use it for one month you will find the results.
You can also put the drops of tulsi juice into the nose. By doing this the problem of sinus disease cures.
Wounds in Mouth
To cure the wounds in the mouth. You can chew the leaves of basil. You will get relief from the problem of wounds in the mouth if occurs again and again.
For Hiccups and All Types of Fever
Take the one teaspoon of tulsi juice with two teaspoons of honey. In all type of fevers, you can take 20 tulsi leaves and 10 pieces of black pepper. Make a powder of these two ingredients. And now make a decoction of this mixture. Take this decoction 3-4 times a day.
If the problem of rheumatoid arthritis persists, you can make the powder of panchang of basil. And take this powder with the cow’s milk every morning.
During the vitality problem, you can take the seeds of holy basil. And make a powder of it. Now take 1 gm of this powder with the cow’s milk.
In the case of impotence. Take the powder of seeds of basil. And mix it with the old jaggery in an equal amount. Then take 2-3 gm this mixture two times a day with milk for six weeks. You will find definitely results.
Leucorrhea and Mensuration
During the leucorrhea problem. You can take the juice of Ashok Patra with the juice of Tulsi. Mix these two juices together. And take this to cure the problem.
In the case of menstruation. Make the decoction of these above said two ingredients. And take this decoction 2-3 times a day.
Tulsi for Herbal Tea
You can also use Tulsi to make herbal tea. Take 3-4 leaves of Tulsi, 2-3 piece of mulethi, a small piece of ginger, 4-5 black pepper seeds. Boil these ingredients in 1 cup of water (250ml). Boil it on medium flame. When half cup of this mixture remains. Strain it and enjoy it. It also helps to cure cold and cough problems. You can give two teaspoons of this mixture to infants suffering from cough, cold, throat, and fever. Do not add milk in it.
