Benefits of Pomegranate

Pomegranate is beneficial for various health diseases. In Ayurveda, anar is considered as the best medicine for stomach related and heart-related problems. It balances the tridosha – Vata, Pitta and Kapha Dosha. It is good for stomach disorders like Indigestion, Diarrhea, Nausea. Pomegranate juice is an excellent cooling beverage for alleviating thirst in case of sickness and fevers. It also improves the intellectual power. It also helps to maintain blood pressure in heart problems. Pomegranate is also beneficial for stomach inflammation, stones, esophagus and weakness of the liver. Let us explore the health benefits of pomegranate in detail.

  1. Digestive Disorders

During the loss of appetite, indigestion[1] and no interest in food, etc. Take 100 gm of Anar dana (made from sour pomegranate), 24 gm black pepper, Nigella seed (Kalonji seed) 24 gm, cumin 30 gm, and rock salt 20 gm.

Mix all these ingredients and make a powder of these ingredients. Now take 10 gm of this mixture during day and night time with lukewarm water.

  1. Chest Inflammation

Take Anardana 100 gm, Dalchini (Cinnamon), cardamon (elaichi), Tej pata (Bay leaf) 40 gm each. Make a powder of all these ingredients. Now mix this powder with 100 gm of powdered sugar.

Take  4 gm of this mixture thrice a day with normal water. This helps in the chest inflammation, indigestion, bloating and mandagni, etc.

  1. Blood in Stool (Hematochezia)

Take anardana, saunf (fennel seeds) and Dhaniya (Cilantro, Coriandrum) in an equal amount. And make a powder of all these ingredients.

Take 2 gm of this mixture. And add 1 gm of powdered sugar in it. Use this mixture four times a day which helps to stop the blood in the stool.

You can also take the petals of the flower of anar. And make the powder of it. Take this powder thrice a day to treat the blood in the stool.

The bark of root and stem of the pomegranate tree has antihelmintic properties that destroy parasitic worms in the stomach. But the bark of root has a greater quantity of alkaloid than the bark of stem.

This alkaloid is highly toxic to worms. An adult should take 90-180ml of cold decoction of fresh bark three times a day. The decoction is used for expelling the worms from the stomach. Children should be given this decoction 30- 60 ml.

  1. Piles and Dysentery

Mix 100 gm jaggery with 400 gm of anardana. Make the powder of it. And take 1 teaspoonful of this mixture thrice a day to cure piles, indigestion, and dysentery[2] immediately.

You can also cure the wounds of the piles by taking the leaves of anar and make a paste of them. Now roast this paste in ghee and apply on the wounds of piles.

Cinnamon Sticks for Diarrhea

Take 100 gm bark of anar and 40 gm cumin seeds. Make the powder of these ingredients. Take 1 teaspoonful of this mixture three times a day to cure diarrhea.

You can also cure diarrhea by taking all these ingredients. Flower of anar 20 gm, Javitri 5 gm, Cilantro (Dhaniya) 10 gm, dalchini (Cinnamon) 10 gm, and 4 gm black pepper.

Make powder of all these ingredients and now take half teaspoonful of this mixture with honey. It will help to treat the diarrhea problem.

Take 4 gm leaves of anar and 3 gm black cumin seeds. Grind them and consume 1 teaspoonful of this mixture thrice a day. It will cure Sangrahini dosh.

Take the leaves of pomegranate, grind them and extract the juice of the leaves. Now consume this juice during day and night time. It helps to balance the rate of a heartbeat.

  1. Diabetes (Primary Stage of Sugar)

Take the bud of anar, Katha (Catechu) and powdered sugar in an equal amount. And make a powder of all these ingredients. Now take 1 teaspoonful of this mixture twice a day. It will also cure urinary problems.

  1. Leucorrhea

Take 10 -13 leaves of anar and 5black pepper. Grind them and make a decoction of it. Drink this mixture two times a day.

  1. Acute Thirst

Pomegranate Juice with Lemon

To cure the acute thirst. Drink the pomegranate juice by adding the lemon juice in it.

Take bud of pomegranate, powder of safed Chandan, Banslochan, and gum of babul (each 10gm). Now take Dhaniya seeds (Cilantro) and fenugreek seeds (each 14gm). Stone (Guthali) of jamun and mango (each 24 gm) and Kapur 4 gm.

Grind all these items. And add the juice of pomegranate in that mixture. Make the tablets of these items. Use this tablet two times a day. It will help to relieve acute thirst, diabetes, and urinary problems.

Take the 1 kg of sugar and boil it in water, make a sweet syrup. Add the 600 ml juice of pomegranate, Javitri (mace), black pepper, tej pata, dalchini (cinnamon), Laung (cloves), saunth (Dried ginger), pippal (Magha), jayphal (nutmeg) ( 3 gm each).

Mix all these items and boil them on medium flame. When the water change into a concentrated form. Consume this concentrated form and it will cure indigestion, loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea, acute thirst. It provides strength to the mind and body. It also makes the immune system strong.

Use the leaves of anar, jaggery and junglee berry (Jujubee). Grind all these and make tablets of it. Now eat this tablet thrice a day. You will immediately get relief from cold.

  1. Sore Throat and Cough

Take 100 gm of anardana, Dalchini, tej pata, elaichi (20 gm each), Saunth, black pepper, magha (Long pippal) 40 gm each. Now mix all the ingredients with old jaggery and make a powder of these items.

Consume 1 teaspoonful with lukewarm water. It will cure sore throat, cough, indigestion, constipation, and loss of appetite.

You can also cure the cough problems by taking the skin of the pomegranate 20 gm, black pepper 10 gm, chotti pippal (chotti magha) 20 gm, javakhar 4 gm.

Make a powder of all these items. And add 60 gm of jaggery into this mixture. Make tablets of this mixture. Take this one tablet three times a day.

b) For Pregnant Women

Pomegranate juice is safe for pregnant women. However, there is no reliable information about the use of pomegranate extract. If you use pomegranate stick with the juice during pregnancy. Take the advice of the doctor first.

c) Blood Pressure

Pomegranate affects blood pressure. Pomegranate juice lowers blood pressure. So people who have low blood pressure. Use it carefully as it decreases the blood pressure.
