Description of Calotropis
Calotropis Procera has widely spread the plant all over the world. Aak is found in India, Cambodia, Indonesia and other countries like Africa, Malaysia, Thailand also. Calotropis Gigantea has two types – one is the type which has a crown like a flower in white color and another one has a flower of red color.
The red color (lavender color) flower aak is easily available but the white color flower aak is not easily available. Mostly in the Ayurveda, the natural remedy of calotropis is made from white-colored aak.
The plant is 2.5 meter in height. The leaves of madar are waxy, ovate, simple cordate at base. All parts of calotropis Gigantea have milk. The milk is called as madar or aak ka doodh (milk). Inside the fruit of aak have soft cotton-like material.
Flowers are in bunches. Flower of madar has a small part in the middle which is called aak ka laung. The green stems of aak when broken then the milk comes out from it. The milk of aak is too poisonous and in Ayurveda, it is compared to the toxins.

Chemical Composition of Calotropis
The root, stem, and bark of calotropis consist of Amyrin, Giganteol, and calotrapeol elements. It has also an alkali metal named as Elbuner phalel. Its milk has protein named as trypsin which is helpful in digestion.
It has also other elements like Uscherin, calotropin, and calotoxin which is helpful in heart problems.
Ayurvedic Medicinal Properties of Calotropis
Qualities (Guna): Lightness (Laghu), Dryness (Rukha), and Teekshna
Taste (Rasa): Bitter and Pungent
Vipaka: Pungent taste after digestion
Potency: Its potency is hot in the fourth stage. Branch, leaves, and root have the hot potencies in the third stage. The flower has hot potencies in the second stage.
Dosage of Calotropis
Don’t take the milk of calotropis. You can take the powder of dried leaves of aak two ratti, powder of flower of madar one to two ratti. And the root bark 2 to four ratti in dosage.
Benefits of Calotropis
Leaves of calotropis provide relief to the pain. Due to which these leaves are tied on the swelling area and joint pain area. Sprinkle the powder of leaves on wounds it will heal the wound immediately.
If the milk of calotropis mix with the olive oil and apply on the bald patches and ringworms it proves beneficial. If the milk of aak with honey in an equal amount then it will cure the very old eczema.
The milk of madar is useful for the poisoned area where the Scorpio, honey bee, yellow bee, and other poisonous insects bite. If the snake bites then put the milk of aak in drops on the poisoned area.
According to Ayurveda, it is hot in nature and leads to dysentery problem. It is helpful in phlegm (Cough) diseases, itching, leprosy, boil fur, and stomach related problems. If you will take the smoke of the leaves of calotropis then it will be beneficial for the asthma patients.
Parts Used of Calotropis
In Ayurveda all the parts of calotropis are used like leaves, roots, bark, stem, fruit, milk and seeds.
Poisonous Effect of Calotropis
The milk of calotropis has a poisonous effect on the human body. So to get relief from the poison you can take the milk by mixing the egg and desi ghee in it. Suck the yellow harad when the color of harad remains white it means that the effect of poison has remained.
So suck the harad till the color come back to its original color of harad. From it, we can know that the effect of poison has been finished.
Natural Remedies of Calotropis
Take the bark of the root of calotropis, black pepper in an equal amount. Grind all the items and add the juice of ginger in the powder. Make the tablets of it.
Give one tablet after half an hour to the cholera patient twice a day. It will help to cure the cholera problem. Take bud of calotropis 10 gm, seeds of red chilly 6 gm, poppy 3 gm. Make tablets of it and it will help in the last stage of cholera.
Use the laung (crown) of the flower of aak 12 gm, black pepper 12 gm, borax (Suhaga) 6 gm, Naushadar 6 gm, rock salt 10 gm.
Grind all the ingredients then add the juice of ginger in it. make the tablets of it. Take this tablet one each in a day to cure dysentery, indigestion, stomach pain, etc.
Take 50 gm flower of madar, Naushadar, Clove, Saunth (Dried Ginger), Magha, black pepper, rock salt, black salt, sea salt, carrom seeds (ajwain) (take all these items 5 gm each).
Fennel seeds 10 gm and grind all these ingredients and make tablets of pea size. Now take this tablet to cure the stomach pain, bloating and flatulence.
Take 1 kg of sesame oil and warm it. put the 1 -100 leaves of calotropis in it and boil the oil. Remove the leaves which are burned out. And preserve the remained oil in the bottle. Apply this oil on the affected area by warm it lightly.
Use the 20 gm milk of madar, Naushadar 5 gm, lime powder 2.5 gm, glycerine 30 gm. Mix all these ingredients and make a balm of it. Apply this balm on the scorpion bite area it will help to get rid of the pain of bitten area.
Take the dried skin of the root of aak 10 gm, raal 30 gm, Katha 40 gm. Grind all these items and sieve it. Sprinkle this powder on any type of wounds it will immediately cure the wounds.
Take the barahan Singha bhasm according to your need. Soak this bhasm in the milk of ak in the earthen pot and put it on the fire palace where the earthen pot is prepared by the potter.
Cool it and open it, if the mixture does not get turned white then again put it on fire. Then the white colored get then make a powder of it and preserve it in the bottle. When pneumonia, chest diseases, and muscle pull over occur then you will take this bhasm by mixing it with honey from one – two ratti in amount.
Use the cleaned flower of calotropis 100 gm and mix them with the sugar 300 gm. Put it into the container and allow it to dry or prepare in the sunlight.
When the gulakandh of the mixture gets ready. Eat 1 -2 gm of this gulakandh in the cough, cold, kapha dosha, asthma, joint pain or arthritis, epilepsy, and hemorrhoids.
Take four goats and graze leaves of calotropis these four goats. Firstly, graze the leaves of ak to the one goat for 20 days and after 20 days consume the milk of this goat for ten days and leave that goat after consuming the milk for ten days.
Now repeat this process with three goats and consume the milk of that goats for a total 40 days. It will help to cure the problem of asthma.
Note: Be careful while grazing the leaves of aak to a goat. One goat should be grazed leaves of aak for twenty days and goats milk should be consumed for 10 days only by a patient. If the leaves are grazed for 40-50 days to one goat. Then its milk will get poisonous.
Don’t consume the milk of any part of calotropis directly or without prescription. Please take the calotropis under the supervision of the practitioner or doctor.
